Bulk Billed at Home Sleep Study

This test (called a Level 2 test) can definitively diagnose obstructive sleep apnea, and for patients who qualify for the test, it can be bulk billed to Medicare.

Sleep Apnea Home Sleep Test

Sleep Life Australia also provides non reimbursed sleep tests (level 3 tests). They can diagnose moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea and are a preferred, cost effective option for some – but these tests are not reimbursed by Medicare.

Sleep Apnea Therapy

Sleep Life Australia will support you from diagnosis, right through to treatment and long term management of your sleep apnea.

If  you are diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, your sleep physician may recommend CPAP therapy.

CPAP  may have benefits such as:

  • Improved blood pressure.
  • Increase insulin sensitivity, helping with type 2 diabetes.
  • Improved memory.
  • Reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
  • Increased daytime alertness and energy levels
  • Weight loss, improved metabolic function.
  • Improve libido
  • Better moods
  • Eliminate snoring.

CPAP therapy (Continuous Positive Airways Pressure) is the most effective way to treat sleep apnoea. CPAP is a simple concept. The CPAP takes air from the room and gently pressurises it. The air blows through the tube and mask into the throat. This pressure of the air keeps the throat open while you are asleep. It is very quiet and makes you quiet as well (no more snoring).

Before purchasing a CPAP and mask it is recommended to trial CPAP

Your sleep scientist or sleep technician will commence your CPAP trial, the purpose of the trial, which usually takes between 2 to 4 weeks, is to establish the type of device best suited to your body, your optimal pressure settings and  the most comfortable mask  to ensure your apneas are minimised if not eliminated. During this time we will educate you on sleep apnea, management of your therapy and equipment and ensure your CPAP experience is the best it can be.
